Like many other organizations, flaconi’s employees were forced to work from home for more than a year during the pandemic. With insights from this time, they introduced a new Way We Work concept. It was embraced not only by their own employees, but also served as an inspiration and role model for many other businesses.

About flaconi

Founded in 2011, flaconi is one of Germany’s leading online retailers for beauty products. The company employs more than 450 people. In March 2021, flaconi moved into their new headquarter in Berlin Charlottenburg, designed with the principles of Collaboration, Focus and Socializing in mind. In addition, flaconi operates a logistic centre in Halle and a concept store in Berlin.

flaconi’s Way We Work

During the year 2020, flaconi gathered important insights that would change the way they work in the long-run:

  1. Home Office will remain
  2. The physical office will become a place to collaborate, communicate and interact

This led flaconi to introduce an innovative flexible work policy which clearly influenced their customized interior which caters to the agile beauty ecommerce.

Flexible work policy

The new work guidelines at flaconi aim at combining the best of both the remote and the on-site working world. Every work week now consists of

  • Minimum 2 office days, to interact with your team members and work  cross-functional
  • Up to 3 fully flexible remote work days, following some basic guidelines (e.g. within Germany, with stable internet connection, etc.)

Furthermore, employees can choose whether to be part of the “travellers” or “settlers”. Settlers are in the office for 4 or 5 days a week, have a fixed desk and therefore no remote equipment. Travellers, on the contrary, only come in twice a week and get assigned a flexible hot desk on these days. In addition, they receive selected equipment to set up a remote workplace.

Within this set of rules, employees are free to decide where to work. So far, flaconi’s courageous and innovative work model has met positive response.

Office redesign

In complementation to flaconi’s work policy, the new customized headquarter interior has been designed with the principles of their Way We Work as guiding stars.

Team huddle spaces, a brainstorming basement, focus floors and collaboration corners as well as dedicated socializing areas with the gastro, community and game & fun zones mark the newly designed office.

According to Anjuli Mauer, Head of People & Culture at flaconi, its Way We Work concept perfectly suits the open-minded company culture, creates a vivid and inspiring work atmosphere and lives up to modern employee expectations such as agile working, flexibility and innovation.

During the Future of Work Talk #3, Anjuli told us even more about flaconi’s way of working and shared how travellers and settlers are working today. The full recording can be found in the dedicated blog article.

We believe flaconi has created a great New Work concept that now serves as a role model for organizations across all industries. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us!
